We are again going to learn another magnificent way of counting numbers 1 – 20. It should be worthy of note that a vital skill that must be developed in preschool is for kids to learn number recognition up to 20.

This skill is a very good approach for kids to be able to solve problems in real life, and to think critically when it comes to counting objects.

Most importantly, they equally gain much confidence with numbers and quantity. It is also amazing to note that as kids learn how to count up to 20, they are in a way preparing themselves to success in other math concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and many others.

Fun facts about Number recognition up to 20

A fun and exciting experience is for kids to be engaged in our number recognition up to 20. This is because all the exercises are made up of well-presentable chocolate blocks, which kids are more familiar with. We often do this to enable them see math in every aspect, and as such intensify its love and a readiness to learn.

With the interest of kids to appropriately learn how to count up to 20, we will present three groups of chocolate blocks. They are presented this way so that kids will be able to count and tell which one of the groups represents a particular given number.

Example – which group shows 13?

It is so striking to note that each group is made up of a full block of chocolate and other pieces besides. The full block alone is equivalent to 10. Therefore, it will be very easy to tell which group shows 13.

Since a full block is 10, we will continue counting the other pieces from number 11.

So let's begin counting from the first group

  • Group 1 = 10, 11, 12 ... hmmmmm! I'll stop here, because it’s already more than 12.
  • Group 2 = 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 ... hmmmmm! I'll stop here, because it’s already more than 19.
  • Group 3 = 10, 11, 12, 13. This group’s last counted block is 13.
