Secret to easy graphing points on a coordinate plane

The only secret to easy graphing points on a coordinate plane is mastering or following the rule of ordered pairs.

As your kids practice plotting points on a coordinate plane, they need to first of all be able to differentiate numbers on the x-axis and those of the y-axis.

The x-axis is the horizontal line or line running from up to down, while the y-axis is the vertical line or line running from left to right on a coordinate graph

Now, given that the coordinate plane is made up of the x and y axis, points are equally made up of two numbers, known as ordered pairs, for instance (4, 2)

The first number (4) tells you where the point is on the x-axis, while the second number (2) tells you where it is on the y-axis.

N.B: To always remember this, kids should recall that as x comes before y in alphabetical order, so too does a point on the x-axis come before that of the y-axis
